The US Census Bureau provides recent profiles for Congressional, Assembly, and Senate Districts.
- Visit https://data.census.gov/all
- Click All Geographies in the Filters menu
- Choose one of the following Geographic Entities: Congressional District, State Legislative District (Lower Chamber), or State Legislative District (Upper Chamber)
- Select New York
- Select a District
- Click the Maps tab
- Click the corresponding district number on the map
- Click View Profile

Detailed Race/Ethnicity Census Data (corresponding to a particular Senate or Assembly district within New York City)
1) Download a zipped shapefile for district boundaries:
Senate: https://www2.census.gov/geo/tiger/TIGER2023/SLDU/tl_2023_36_sldu.zip
Assembly: https://www2.census.gov/geo/tiger/TIGER2023/SLDL/tl_2023_36_sldl.zip
2) Visit the NYC Population FactFinder (PFF)
3) Click the "Add Map Layers" menu at the top right then upload (or drag and drop) the zipped shapefile. District boundaries should appear in magenta.
4) Click on the map to select census tracts. Please note that detailed race/ethnicity data are unavailable at the block level – only the tract level – so the available information might not correspond exactly with district boundaries.
5) Click "View Data" and a "Loading in Progress" screen should display briefly.
6) Scroll down to "Detailed Race and Ethnicity" to view population figures for the selected tracts.
